Step 1: Don’t.

Seriously. Being pregnant and growing a baby is enough work. There is a long list of to-dos on preparing for the arrival of your little one, stressing about your fresh 48 session shouldn’t be one of them! There is literally nothing you NEED to do to prep for a fresh 48 session other than book a photographer. There are plenty of things you can do to prep for this session if you WANT. But the magic is in the moment, not with how perfect things appear to be with cute coordinating outfits. Let’s keep it real!

For these sessions, your photographer is essentially “on call” waiting for you to go into labor. Usually you want to give your a photographer a heads up when you know you are in true labor so they can plan to meet you at the hospital after your baby arrives for your session. These sessions are done within the first 48 hours of your baby’s life, hence the name “fresh 48 session.”

A fresh 48 session is such a special time for a family. For your first child, it is incredible to capture the family bond as you go from a family of 2 to a family of 3. The look in your eyes that shows the love and appreciation you have for your partner as you swoon over your new baby is something you won’t want to forget. Just as memorable is the look on your faces as you literally have no idea what you are doing as new parents but just seem so natural at it already. These moments give me all the feels from behind the camera.

Adding in a newborn to a family with a toddler or child is even more special. Getting to see the sibling’s reaction to the new baby is priceless and capturing that with photographs is the icing on the cake. Getting your first family portrait with your new addition is something that your family will cherish forever. And of course getting solo shots of the new baby and all the little details from cute button noses to little baby toes is something I love to document. They are only this tiny for so long!

I personally love doing fresh 48 sessions. I think it is a great combination for my passion of photography and education as a physician assistant. I am someone who feels very comfortable in a healthcare setting and behind the camera so it’s the best of both worlds in my opinion! And let’s be honest, what’s not to love about a new baby?! So much excitement and joy to capture during this milestone in your family’s journey.

If you are expecting and interested in learning more about this a fresh 48 session, feel free to message me! I’d love to hear from you!
